Vector map of the Cavan county, Ireland. County Cavan is one of the thirty-two traditional counties of the island of Ireland, located in the province of Ulster. The county takes its name from the town of Cavan and is colloquially known as the Breffni County. It has a population of 64,003 according to the 2006 census. It is one of the three Ulster counties that is not part of Northern Ireland. The language spoken in the county is predominantly English, with just 35% of the Cavan population also Irish speaking.
