Description
Granada is a city and the capital of the province of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. The city of Granada's origins were as a strong Ibero-Celtic settlement. By the 5th century BCE, the Greeks had established a colony which they named Elibyrge or Elybirge. Under the Ancient Roman rule of Hispania, in the early centuries CE, this city name had become "Illiberis". As Illiberis, the city minted its own coins as part of the economy of Hispania.
