Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with 310,605 people in the four municipalities that make up the city proper, and a metro-area population of 436,572 people in the Sarajevo Canton as of June 2010. It is also the capital of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina entity, as well as the center of the Sarajevo Canton. Sarajevo is located in the Sarajevo valley of Bosnia, surrounded by the Dinaric Alps and situated along the Miljacka River.
