Vector map. The country's geography is unified by the Lake Chad basin. Once a great inland sea (the sea pale and Chad), whose only remnant Lake Chad is shallow, this vast depression extends westward into Nigeria and Niger. The larger ie the northern portion of the basin is limited in Chad by the Tibesti mountains in the northwest, the plateau Ennedi in the northeast highlands of Ouaddai in the east along the border with Sudan, the solid Guera in central Chad, and the Mandara Mountains along Chad's southwestern border with Cameroon. Most small southern downstream almost exclusively in Chad. It is bounded on the north by the massif of Guéra, on the south by the mountains 250 kilometers south of the border with the CAR, and southwestern Mandara Mountains.
